Green Day

Postby Jeff » 2004.03.29 8:20 pm

Pepsi commercials that have been around since the Super Bowl about the iTunes music giveaway featured a Green Day cover of "I Fought the Law (and the Law Won)" I used one of my iTunes Pepsi caps to get the song, actually.

Anyway, it got me thinking about Green Day and how much I like the band. And it got me thinking about how Warning was their last real album, how both International Superhits! and Shenanigans were just rereleases and compiliation albums, and how Green Day seems to have fallen off of the face of the earth.

Basically, I was trying to find out if this new cover was actually new, or dredged up from some other album that somehow slipped through my fingers. Well, it's new, and it's not the only thing that's new. Green Day will be releasing their first new album in four years sometime in 2004. This makes me happy.
I do what I can.

I think my favorite Green Day song would definitely have to be "Time of Your Life". It's always been one of my favorites. I couldnt say I'm a huge fan, but definitely like the music.

Time of your life is just one of those sappy high school graduation songs that everyone finds so sentimental like "I will remember you" by Sarah McLaughlan......

anyhow, i personally dont think that time of your life encompasses exactly who greenday is. Granted that they have changed since their early days but i think that the Dookie album is really them with out any commercialized pop shit.

How's that for ya jeff? Ignorance?? I think not!!

Go megan!! Teri, I'm just curious, have you ever heard any music that wasn't played on the radio or at a dance? (I'm not trying to insult you, this is just pure curiousity.)

It's too hard to pick out a favorite song by Green Day...they're a talented crew. Time of your Life is good and all, but it's been overplayed and it's too typical to pick that.

I saw them in concert once 2 years back. It was by far the best concert I've been to. They get the audience so pumped, and they just go freaking crazy on stage. I would see them again any day.
I'd piss Coors if I could. You believe that happy crappy?

Petey, yes I've heard more of their music. As stated...I am not a hardcore Green Day fan...but I do have two of their CDs and I listen to them occasionally.

personally, i think it was all downhill after "dookie"
(((best song: having a blast)))
its the green day equivalent of "candyass" by orgy

a singly awesome album that is followed by mediocrity... :(

Bah! Nimrod, Insomnia(c), Warning... All good stuff. I generally like the songs that never made it off the album, like Misery. What a fun little ditty. :)

I have the music video.....its quite enjoyable.....green slime......Granted, i like green day, but does anyone else feel like all of their songs bleed together into one angry pop-punk song??

And yes, Hüva, i agree with you although all of their following albums were good, it all went downhill after dookie.

Anyone going to see green day tonight?? Or at least i think its tonight.....i was told they were pretty good on the blink/green day tour, although alot of people i talked to said touring with blink was a big mistake.....(too many 12 year old girls with pink Blink 182 shirt on) or something to that effect.

I think it also had to do with blink not being able to put on any decent entertainment, either.

Blink's still around? What the hell happened to those guys? I know they had an album come out in the past year or so, but from what I heard it sucked. Not to mention the quality of their shows just got crappy...at least from the last one I went to anyway. That's a damn shame. They were pretty funny at one point in time.

Hard to do immature growing up pseudo-punk when you've already grown up, I guess.

Then again, if I were ever famous for something, I'd quit early. That way, I go out before I suck, and I could live the rest of my life the way I want.

Actually the best way is to die or kill yourself when you are at the peak of your fame. Think Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Chris Farley, etc.

Well, it'd be the best way for me personally; not my career. I don't want to be remembered. I want to make my money and split. You don't really hear about a lot of that. Fame must be a narcotic.

Actually, joe got the new blink album for christmas last year....it wasnt that horrible.....wasnt that great either.....it was a bit darker than what blink has usually done. I dont like them just for the fact they promote things they arent into.....like drinking....their bassist doesnt drink, and verbally makes it known, but yet it gets painted as something cool to 14 year old kids

Back to Green Day. Anyone hear their new single, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"? It sounds like Billy Joe's voice grafted onto an Avril Lavigne song! I was really pissed. After over 10 years of genre-defining, fun, self-styled music, they've lowered themselves to become trend-following clones just to make an extra buck.

Or not. Maybe, like most bands, they're just experimenting with their sound. But I'd rather they go off on their own tangent instead of mimicking a Canadian raccoon.
