[How-To] Disable XP from Searching Zip Files

Postby Jeff » 2005.02.19 3:07 am

I hate that Windows XP searches inside ZIP and other archive files. Well, actually what I hate is that there's no way to turn it off. When I'm looking for a file, I generally know it's not in a ZIP.

Well, I was Googling and found a way to disable it. From the command line, address bar, run menu, or whatever you're comfortable with, run these commands:
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll
regsvr32 /u cabview.dll

You'll get a reassuring notice that this did indeed work. Now just restart and your searches will go much faster. If for any reason you'd like to re-enable this, just run the same commands without the /u.
I do what I can.
