Google Makes a Browser!

Postby Kage » 2004.09.26 10:39 am

There are recent rumors that our search engine giant google is making a browser. With recent clues such as the registration of "gbrowser.com" under googles name, the hiring of 4 Microsoft I.E. engineers along with other browser developers. There is an array of links so look it up. Some of these might be outdated. Most speculation and rumors say that the "gbrowser" will be using the Mozilla Firefox Engine. Hoorah.

[quote="Screen Savers"]In tech topics, all signs point to Google.com building its own web browser. Not only has the uber-search engine company registered the “gbrowser.comâ€

I'm not quite sure what they hope to accomplish by doing that. But if it's based on Mozilla, I'm game. Maybe winning some significant converts from IE with a big name like Google will make Microsoft update their browser where it needs it; in W3C code compatibility. It'd be damn nice for all pages to look the same in every browser.
I do what I can.

So far everything from google has rocked my socks. I'll be damned if they quit amazing me. I'm also excited because some of the major bugs in Firefox were in fact fixed by google themselves. I do believe that cross browser functionality is their all time goal.

I agree. Everything google touches turns to gold. They are using Mozilla as a base. They already found a security hole and reported it to Mozilla. If only google could create a browser that would also replace explorer for my file managing I would be most impressed.
