WTF MSN?

Postby Jeff » 2004.10.11 8:53 am

Has anyone else been having issues with MSN? Mine's been kicking me off and aparently not sending my messages when I'm on lately. And it's not just that I use Trillian, since the latest version of MSN Messenger does the same thing.

When they want to. It's said about 5 different things to me now, ranging from "experiencing difficulties" to "high traffic volume".

This is just terrible. You'd think Microsoft would be able to handle this better.

I got a giant text-ed SERVER ERROR message once, and then an internal server runtime error that only admins are supposed to see. This would be sad if it weren't so funny.

Petey, everyone else, get AIM or Yahoo! too so you don't have to be dependent.

Yaaaaah! It's not just me. Dang, I really don't like AIM, YM, or Trillian. But sometimes I guess you have to make sacrafices. Jeff, Do you know where I can get Trillian Pro?

I can get it, but you need the crack that removes the authentication check. I don't have that right now, but I used to. Just look it up in P2P or a cracks site, and try to find one for version 2.013

I have it. Easy peazy japanezy.

Can you change profile info or even your MSN nickname in Trillian? I've heard Trillian's the way to go, but it seems to be missing some features. Either that or I overlooked them.

I thought you didn't like Trillian either though?

And do you have any other accounts besides your MSN?

It's not that I don't like Trillian...was always too used to my seperate chat programs to give it a shot.

Yeah, I have AIM. And if I can get trillian fired up the way I want, I might re-register my IRC nickname again. I just need to figure it out more.

Does MSN or Trillian or any of the other messengers work with back versions? I always fell back on older more reliable ICQ version when the newest one acted up. So much easier.

Yeah, all clients work with older versions of themselves. It's pretty much a rule.

Off exacy topic but my buddy at work is currently alpha testing a new MSN client named iRUNGE. Other than naming it after me (always a big plus in my book) it is a really nice app written completely in C# and takes up a minamal ammount of desktop space. Ill let you all know when a downloadable version comes out.

Hmm.. What else is out there for multi-client IMing? You'd think Trillian would have ported to other OSes by now.

Other than OSX there is no need to port trillian to other OS's.

I dunno. PocketPC or Palm OS could be fun.

The only other Multi-Client that I have seen in action or have even heard about for that matter (other then trillian) is Miranda. I've been to lazy to try it out but since alot of people I am starting to work with are using MSN or Yahoo I think I need to try it out. Does trillian support file transfer as well?

I've had issues with it, but most of that has to do with the firewall here on campus. I don't think it works over ICQ, but MSN and AIM should.

Hmm.. I do know that Miranda does support ICQ to ICQ file transfer but I'm not sure if it does support ICQ to <insert other IM>. I'm definitely going to have to try Miranda out. It does look promising.

Last time I tried to set up trillian I got a trojan virus. I don't know if it has to do with Trillian or not but all I know is that I discovered the trojan after I downloaded trillian.

If you got it on P2P, it makes sense.

Yeah, I think if I had an ICQ account, I could transfer files with you, but since I use my AIM account, it doesn't work.

Does the current trillian support file transferring on all clients (besides ICQ>AIM?) That was my biggest hangup.

I'm pretty sure, although I never get good results with the campus firewall.

Well, make sure you get the latest version of Trillan Pro (2.013, I believe) as only the Pro version has some of the advanced features and only the newest version handles all of the connectivity issues. Unfortunately, Pro checks itself against a server to make sure you're an authorized user. So you'll need a crack, too, though I understand they aren't that difficult to find. Good luck.
