The last PS2 disc you'll ever buy.

The coolest thing about my friend's modded Xbox is the fact that he can load his games to his huge internal 120GB hard drive instead of having to use the discs. This is great for his own games as well as every game he rents. Well, now there's a PS2 equivalent, and it doesn't require a soldering iron.

HD Loader (www.hdloader.com) is a boot disc that will allow you to transfer games to a hard drive and load games you've already transferred. You need a PS2 network adaptor and an IDE hard drive to make this work. This is great for me, since I have yet to find a use for my net adaptor, and I have a 60 GB hard drive collecting dust on my shelf. For $35, this thing seems more than worth the money.
I do what I can.

I'm starting to mess with my ps2 modding wise, I don't want to go all out because of ps2's minimal modding friendly capability. I hoping to make my ps2 a frankenstein box after I finish with my frankenstein computer.

Well, this disc seems like a good start, since it's minimally invasive. Take the disc out, and it's like nothing ever happened to your system. I'm just surprized they didn't add an MP3 player feature, or DVD ripping capability.

There is another really cool mod for Xbox other than the ability to copy games. Enter XBMC (X-box media center) which gives you a really cool interface to play any media you want. Got MP3's on your hard drive? Movies? Porno? Well you can mount the directories of any computer on the network onto the xbox and with the remote stream them through your home stereo. The pre-compiled binaries are hard to find as you have to have the X-box SDK and a special version of Visual Studio .NET edition to compile this open source project. But if anyone decides to add this to their modded x-box I can get them for you. Xbox mods are cool in general. $350 bucks for an X-box, 120gig HD and a solderless mod chip. For this you get to install around 30+ games and access all your media in your living room. Pretty sweet if you ask me. If you want you can also replace the processor in the x-box.

I direct you to this. It's amazing what his Xbox can do. You even load stuff from your machine through FTP. (why is that making itself an URL?) I'm glad this guy's going to be my roommate next year.

X-Box is a very nice hackable commodity. Thank you Microsoft for delivering a console with a hard drive and OS along with standard processor architecture :]

Well, I am ordering myself a 120 GB HD and the HDLoader for my ps2. When I get these to suckers in I will make a stickfied copy on the process of installing the HD to using the loader. ( The HDLoader is down but I found a copy here: http://www.tisinc99.com/ps2hdloader.html )
