that would skip across lakes for me,
disturbing the tranquil calm of the water's surface
and momentarily ignoring physics.

Thank you, Vitruvius,
for inventing the odometer.
You have shown me the strange satisfaction
of watching rows of nines disappear into zeroes.

My thanks goes out to water pressure,
to pumps, hoses, tanks and spouts and pools
for combining to serve the aquatic expression of art:
a fountain.

I give a final heartfelt thanks to magnets
and their invisible mystery of repulsion and attraction.
