Ads

Postby Jeff » 2012.02.05 9:07 pm

The default "prosilver" theme will be displaying Google AdSense ads.

This is basically just to take advantage of the fact that someone hacked the old phpbb2-based Datatiki forums a while back, flooded it with spam, and drove a lot of traffic here. We have a lot of guest visitors for an essentially inactive forum, and I'm pretty sure that's why. This is my lemonade-from-lemons solution.

Any registered user can simply change their theme and get rid of the ads or use Adblock or a similar browser plugin.
I do what I can.

Perhaps I'm an idiot, but when I changed to Acidtech there was no way for me to post something. Like I couldn't find the button. Could I not find the button? I'm confused.

I noticed that too. That was the theme I liked best, but saw there was an error on the 'post reply' part of it.

It's there - it's a picture of a broken image on the lower lefthand side of a thread, to the left of the 'Page 1 of x' line. You can click it and reply but apparently there's an error in that part of the code.
I'd piss Coors if I could. You believe that happy crappy?

Some of those themes were for earlier versions of the board. I'm not sure what the revisions are from 3.0.8 to 3.0.10, for example, but it seems to break some theme features.

Above post = BS, apparently.

The issue wasn't compatibility; it was language. phpBB comes with British English as a default language, and since I don't say "favourite colour", I decided to add American English and make it default. That breaks some themes that don't expect folks to differentiate. Anyway, fixed AcidTech and messed with the header a bit. Check it out.

Hooray it works!

Also, the owl at the top of the acidtech looks suprizingly like the mascot from my high school.

I'm making AcidTech my pet project for an official forum style. My variant is currently called AcidPuck, and aside from the header differences, I'm cleaning up and trimming down a lot of the chrome and find print crap so it's a lot tighter and easier to navigate.

Whee!

Ads = dead. Not one click. You'd think a bunch of Ukranian pharm spammers would help a brother out, but no dice.
